Kinja'd!!!

Tires Monday, hopefully.

Specs, for those interested: 17 x 8 ET45 Konig Oversteer. The extra 1/2" of width will have them sit a bit more flush with the fenders than the OE 17 x 7.5 wheels at the same offset (the lip will be 6mm further out than stock). Plus at a bit under 20lbs each they should be a couple of pounds lighter than stock, though not so light to create fear of them being fragile.

The perspective of the wheels sitting in front of the current ones makes them look bigger than they are. Tires will be 225/45R17 so there will still be plenty of sidewall to avoid worrying too much about shitty roads and ride comfort. Rubbing shouldn’t be an issue during autocross.

*Waits impatiently*

Thanks, might need to slap one on the M3.

Side note, what does your name reference? S65 Mercedes? BMW S65 engine? Something random, I’ve been curious.

Great-looking wheels! 8J ET45 is the sweet spot on the Mk7, especially at the front. (We’re running 18x8 BBS SR winter wheels on our GTI and used to have 18x8 Neuspeeds for the summer, but went back to stock this year.)

Gearhead Shirts, as S65 points out. The otherwise plain car gets a surprisingly decent number of compliments for it, which always makes me happy.

Thanks and agreed on the width/offset. The rear would need a small spacer to sit as flush as the fronts will but I’m not a fan of that idea from a mechanical perspective.

Funny that you mention the BBS RS, I seriously considered them, though my preference is for the 17s. I chose the Konigs because they’re 1.5kgs lighter each and they look just that little bit sharper to my eye.

My winter wheels are the hilariously small 15s that came with the car. I don’t like them very much. I’m considering an upgrade to GTI brakes (only need to swap the caliper carrier bracket and rotor at the front), which will force me to get at least a set of 16s for winter and give me an excuse to ditch the stockers.

I asked them to make a version of the sticker with the correct shifter pattern for my cars (reverse to the left of first, my e30 is the same) but I never heard back on that.

They certainly are heavy, the difference in feel between them and the Neuspeeds is/was enormous, but that’ll probably be at least partly related to winter vs summer tire. The biggest advantage is their color: no matter what you do or where you drive, they will not appear dirty.

Standard GTI brakes I assume? Because if you’re going for the PP brakes, most 17s will have trouble fitting (which is also why even our winter wheels are 18s).

Standard GTI brakes indeed. PP brakes would require new callipers at the front at a minimum, probably the rears as well, calliper brackets front and rear, rotors all around and at least 17s for winter wheels as you mentioned.

The standard brakes are a much cheaper/easier upgrade as the callipers are the same and only the front rotors need to be changed and accommodated with the carrier to put the calliper further out.

Very nice. I was seriously considering the same wheels a month ago for my Subaru before a lucky OE find on CL.
